LIEBESLIED

Roger and Dinah, both in their early thirties, have been deeply in love for nine years. With their two children, 10 year old Lars and 6 year old Marie, they live in a semi-detached house, which is neither renovated nor paid off yet, but still the small family’s happiness prevails.

Roger works as a freelance carpenter on a construction site; Dinah is a cashier in a supermarket. In their spare time they both dance in a class, that also organises tournaments which Dinah tailors the clothes for.

Whilst Roger works on a remote building site in order to earn more money for the family, fate strikes. Roger’s body suddenly seems to spiral out of control. The tremble of his hands become so strong, that he is no longer able to hide it. Soon afterwards it leads to a dicey situation in which Roger puts himself and his colleagues in jeopardy. Roger loses his job and has to face the truth. The doctor’s diagnosis leaves little room for hope: Roger is suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

It comes as a great shock to Dinah, Lars and Marie. Roger doesn’t function like he used to; he cannot and will never be the same again. He even endangers his daughter’s life, because he suddenly cannot move. The extent of the restrictions of the illness can no longer be suppressed.

Roger and Dinah must newly define their love and find out whether they can go together on the path, which lies ahead of them. For their lives and their relationship will dramatically change, not to mention their financial problems. Roger will eventually require continuous medical care and his children will also have to live with a father who is very different than one might imagine.

Jan Plewka and Nicolette Krebitz star in a touching film about two lovers who have to face the terrible fate of Parkinson's disease. Anne Høegh Krohn staged the dramatic story with music and songs, not in the classical musical style, but quite modern.
